SEATTLE, November 30, 2011 – Boeing (NYSE: BA) is expanding its partnerships in Africa, today announcing an agreement to jointly offer a comprehensive pilot training program with 43 Air School (Pty) Ltd., Africa’s largest flight training organization.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment by Boeing and 43 Air School to maintain and enhance aviation safety in Africa and around the world.

Participants in the program will benefit from high-quality training at the “ab initio,” or basic, level delivered by a world-class, experienced flight school and at the commercial jet level, delivered by Boeing. The three-phase program is designed to provide a candidate with no prior flying experience the opportunity to progress seamlessly through professional training to full competence and accreditation — from basic instruction through jet training. Program graduates will be qualified as a Boeing Next-Generation 737 First Officer, ready to assume the right seat in the flight deck.

“With three branches in South Africa, 43 Air School is Africa’s premier flight school and with Boeing as a strategic partner, we can now compete globally, delivering world class aviation instruction rooted in international standards of training and safety,” said Attie Niemann, chief executive officer, 43 Air School (Pty) Ltd. “We have a unique understanding of this region’s training needs, giving our customers a competitive advantage that cannot be matched on the continent. We’re the perfect fit to partner with Boeing in delivering the ‘Street to Right Seat’ program.”

Phase One of the program will take cadets through basic flight instruction at 43 Air School. Phases Two and Three continue with Boeing Flight Services Jet Bridge and Type Rating programs completed at any Boeing training campus around the world.

“Boeing is working to provide expanded access to flight training solutions in all regions of the world, enabling airlines to reduce their overall training costs as well as help meet the increased demand for pilots,” said Roei Ganzarski, chief customer officer, Boeing Flight Services. “Over the next 20 years there is a global need for hundreds of thousands of new airline pilots. Through partnerships like this we’re working to expand the pool of pilots from which airlines can select.”

Upon completion of training, graduates will have earned a private pilot license, with multi-engine and instrument ratings and commercial/multi-engine qualification and a type rating in a Next-Generation 737 or other models, as the market requires.

“Boeing is one of the largest aerospace companies operating in the region, partnering with commercial aerospace suppliers Aerosud Aviation PTY Ltd., and Denel Aerospace. The addition of 43 Air School to the Boeing portfolio of partners is a further investment in supporting Africa’s leadership in the aviation industry,” said J. Miguel Santos, director, International Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Flight crew training is going to be a critical focus in Africa as we seek to provide the necessary human resources to operate airline fleets to meet the region’s market demands.”

Boeing offers the industry’s broadest range of aviation services, including Flight Services aligned with customers’ flight operations function. These offerings drive optimized performance, efficiency and safety through advanced flight and maintenance training – including a network of 19 training campuses on six continents – as well as improved air traffic management and 24/7 flight operations support. Flight Services provides digital tools and data to enhance overall operations, airport infrastructure, fuel efficiency, flight planning, navigation and scheduling.

Now that Gareth has completed (for the present) his training at 43 AS, I feel proud of his achievements and I am confident that he has a good future. Would you kindly pass on my appreciation to your staff – which includes every person in whatever roll they fill at 43AS.

It was no doubt brought to your attention that Gareth, some months ago, applied to Cathay Airways as a student pilot (or the equivalent thereof). He was invited to attend an interview with this company in Johannesburg some two months ago. On impressing their Board, he was subsequently advised that he would be invited to an interview in Hong Kong. This invitation has materialised and he is to go through to this destination on (or about) the 14th and 15th December. His eyes looked a bit damp – from pride – when he told me this news.

I was again very impressed and I feel that his invitation is due only to a good training received from 43 AS.

As a proud parent – thanks very much.

Ramon AA Allen

Dear Mr Naidoo,

My wife and I would just like to express a brief word of appreciation to you and the staff and management of 43 Air School for the manner in which Christopher’s training was undertaken.

From the outset we were impressed with the professional, yet personal, manner in which the training was managed, especially the fact that Christopher was encouraged from the outset to take responsibility for himself in so many aspects. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at 43 Air School.

We are confident that 43 Air School not only gave him the opportunity to acquire his Commercial Pilots License, but also passed on other skills which will stand him in good stead both as a pilot and in life generally.

Regards,

This comes after the 19 year old lady completed her studies and obtained her pilots license with the internationally acclaimed 43 Air school in Port Alfred.

“We salute this young lady, who worked very hard in a male dominated environment and made full use of the opportunity she was offered by the Department through our bursary scheme,” says MEC Marawu.

Matomela, who hails from Port Elizabeth, began her studies at 43 Air school in January 2010 and is fortunate enough that her qualification comes with an immediate job offer from the SAPS Air Wing.

She is the fourth student to be awarded a pilot bursary by the Department and first female to do so.

“As the Department we are so proud of her and we truly believe that her achievement could serve as an inspiration to other young lady in the province,” added Marawu.

43 Air School’s Director of Marketing, Dave Howarth attended the celebrations in Juba, South Sudan, on 9 July 2011. The South Sudan Government and South Sudan People’s Liberation Army have a long standing relationship with 43 Air School who were contracted to provide pilot training for the SPLA. It was a proud moment for all to see a formation of four MIL-17 helicopters; flown by 43 Air School trained pilots. The MIL-17s flew with the South Sudan flag lowered below each helicopter and wowed the thousands of people who had gathered in Juba for the celebrations.
