Pilot Training Courses offered at 43 Air School

The following are the complete standard flying training courses offered by 43 Air School. We can also design a programme to meet almost any requirement you have, whether it be a complete programme or to finish what you had started elsewhere.

Private Pilot Licence (A)

On completion of this course, you will have the knowledge, practical skills, experience and confidence to plan for all aspects of and to operate as a Private Pilot in an environment similar to that in which you have trained, and elsewhere with local familiarisation. You will also have a solid foundation for a CPL training course.

Hours 52 (37 dual, 15 solo). A 5 hour instrument familiarisation module to comply with CAA licence requirements.
Duration 7 weeks

Private Pilot Licence (H)

On completion of this course, you will have the knowledge, practical skills, experience and confidence to plan for all aspects of and to operate as a Private Helicopter Pilot in an environment similar to that in which you have trained, and elsewhere with local familiarisation. You will also have a solid foundation for a Rotorwing CPL training course.

Hours 55 (40 dual, 15 solo). A 5 hour instrument familiarisation module to comply with CAA licence requirements.
Duration 7 weeks

Night Rating

Available to the holder of a South African PPL. On completion of this course you will be able to operate at night in VFR conditions.

Hours 17 dual. This includes 10 hours instrument training, and 4 hours night circuits and navigation.
Duration 10 days

Multi-engine Class Rating

Available to the holder of a South African PPL or CPL

Hours 8 dual.
Duration 10 days.
Note Already included as part of the CPL/ME and ATP courses.

Instrument Rating

Available to the holder of a South African PPL with night rating, or CPL. This course does not include the Instrument Rating Ground School, which can be completed as part of the CPL course. More information on application.

Hours 35 dual approximately (includes 15 hours simulator training). Actual requirement depends on previous experience.
Duration 42 days.
Note Already included as part of the CPL and ATP courses.

Instructor Rating

Available to the holder of a South African CPL. On completion of this course you will be able to conduct PPL ground and flying instruction under supervision.

Hours 27 Aircraft + 5 on simulator.
Duration 84 days.

Integrated ATPL (A)

The Integrated ATPL course is perfect for those pilots wanting to enter the Airline market. There is no need to first do your PPL and the course and exams are all completed at 43 Air School’s Port Alfred branch. 43 Air School is the only CAA approved Integrated ATPL course provider in Africa.

Hours 199 (129 dual including 23 on simulator, and 70 solo).
Duration 378 Days.

Integrated ATPL (H)

The Integrated ATPL course is perfect for those pilots wanting to enter the Helicopter market. There is no need to first do your PPL and the course and exams are all completed at 43 Air School’s Port Alfred branch. 43 Air School is the only CAA approved Integrated ATPL course provider in Africa.

Hours 180 (110 dual including 20 on simulator, and 70 solo).
Duration 357 Days.

Commercial Pilot Licence (A)

On completion of this course you will have a genuine operational capability and can be employed effectively in the commercial sector.

Hours 219 (119 dual, 100 solo). This includes 33 hours multi-engine, 26 hours simulator, 50 hours solo navigation, 15 hours solo night and 70 hours instrument training/flying. A single engine option is available, with a reduction in the total hours to 209.
Duration 51 weeks. (Including CPL Ground School)

Commercial Pilot Licence (H)

On completion of this course you will have a genuine operational capability and can be employed effectively in the commercial sector.

Hours 205 (105 dual, 100 solo). This includes 180 flying hours, 25 hours simulator, 50 hours solo navigation, 15 hours solo night and 70 hours instrument training/flying.
Duration 51 weeks. (Including CPL Ground School)

Commercial Pilot Licence Ground School

Available to holder of South African PPL who is undergoing a flying training course (or part thereof) at 43 Air School. On completion of this course, you will be equipped to sit the CPL examinations.

Hours 270 hours lectures.
Duration 11 weeks.

Airline Transport Pilot Licence Ground School

This is an optional add-on theory module to the CPL, for the later issue of an Airline Transport Pilot Licence. The ATPL will only be issued once the Commercial Pilot has accumulated at least 1500 hours, and will be a requirement when entering an airline environment.

For clients following JAA Modular route

43 Air School has designed a specially structured training programme for clients planning on doing the JAA Modular Course where a large part of the flying training itself is conducted outside Europe. The objective is to use what is normally only hour building and a structured and monitored programme to best prepare the client for the final training which is conducted in Europe.

Hours 158 (68 dual including 15 on simulator, and 90 solo).
Duration 140 Days.
